New Glasses

Well, on Monday we picked up AP's new glasses and since then my main occupation has been keeping them on her. She's not terribly jazzed about them and is constantly wrestling them off her face. Somehow she defied all of the odds and was born with a small head and the strap was too big for her so that complicated things further. Last night I cinched the strap and sewed it a bit tighter but it's still too big. Other than that, they look totally adorable on her, as you can see, and hopefully they'll help.

The primary purpose of getting her glasses was to create a barrier between her fist and her eyes. She has started rubbing her eyes constantly lately, which is completely natural for her to want to do, but it is heartbreaking for us because we know that she can do permanent damage to herself. The expression 'seeing stars' originated because when you bonk yourself in your head, you can see a brief burst of light. Kids with VI rub their eyes because they're stimulated by the sensation of light. We're holding out hope that she's rubbing like crazy because she's getting used to the glasses.

They do have a prescription in them so if she can see something, they should help her use her vision. Her glasses would have been like bottle caps but we paid extra to get the thin lenses on her dad's insistence. He had thick glasses as a kid and didn't want her to relive that.
Okay, well I'm hearing a not so little voice calling me.....
